How Music affects people with Hearing Impairment
Why does music sound so different with hearing aids? Hearing aids are programmed to optimise the high frequencies of speech. Which often means they can't pick up the low frequencies of music such as a Bass playing his low E string. Also, sound pressure levels of music are usually higher than those of speech. Then music is often distorted as it passes through the hearing aid. This makes music sound not like how we hear it. This then often people that aren't all the way deaf, take out their hearing aids so it doesn't sound strange.
